Hot DX on 80m RTTY
EA8 Canary Islands was received on 80 meter RTTY this weekend. I guess the sunspot cycle is at it's bottom allowing for early evening DX on the lower HF bands. Not bad for using a G5RV Jr. up 20 feet and tuned to 3580 with the Kenwood AT200.
Though I have a "9" call from Illinois, my QTH is in 8-land, West Michigan. I've been a ham since 1979 and have since worked WAC, DXCC and all using less than 70 W output using simple wire antennas. Shortwave listening (SWL) is another favorite hobby. I have snagged some good DX over the years. Lately, I've gotten into APRS, PSK and RTTY modes and also operate VHF packet.
