New Scanner
Well, another bargain at the hamfest. I paid $25 for a Bearcat BC 950XLT 100 channel scanner. It's not a new-fangled trunking model, but there is a lot of activity from 29 Mhz up to 800 Mhz. It has no 220 coverage, but the price was right.
Though I have a "9" call from Illinois, my QTH is in 8-land, West Michigan. I've been a ham since 1979 and have since worked WAC, DXCC and all using less than 70 W output using simple wire antennas. Shortwave listening (SWL) is another favorite hobby. I have snagged some good DX over the years. Lately, I've gotten into APRS, PSK and RTTY modes and also operate VHF packet.
